Math Olympiad

7th Graders take 2nd in Math Olympiad!

The Paterson Public Schools Math Olympiad consisted of 3 teams from 24 middle schools. Each school was represented by 2 sixth, 2 seventh and 2 eighth grade competitors and an alternate. On our team we had:  8th graders Jared Johnson and David Smith, 7th graders Aliyah Collins and Marlon Bailey (alternate Rickerson Santos) 6th graders Melannie Abreu and Wilkens Smith (alternate A'llure Watson).

There were many parents there to encourage and support the children.

The competition was separated by grade level. In Round One questions had to be answered within 45 seconds. In Round Two questions had to be answered within 90 seconds and Round Three (The Speed Round) questions had to be answered within 25 seconds. All the answers were multiple choice.

Three teams (6th, 7th and 8th graders) of students were chosen from the top three schools for the semi-finals. Our 7th graders made it to the final round. In this round the students were given a task, which had to be completed within 10 minutes. Our team took 2nd place!!! We are extremely proud of ALL of our students! Kudos to Mrs. Speroni for preparing them for the contest!
